BEWARE! TERROR TALES #5 (Jan. 1953)
Beware! Terror Tales was a short-lived horror anthology series that ran between 1952 and 1953, but don't let its short longevity fool you! Issue #5 is a case study in vintage horror comics, from the stunningly ghoulish cover by Bernard Baily to the final, terrifying panel! In "The Horrors of the 13th Stroke," a clock collector discovers the horror that lies beyond the 13th hour, while in "The Lonely One" too arctic explorers find out just how terrifying isolation can be! Reanimation hijinx abound in "Return of the Dead!" and much more!
SKELETON HAND #1
Another short lived early '50s comic, this time by American Comics Group, "Skeleton Hand in Secrets of the Supernatural" was an oddball horror/suspense anthology whose notariety lives on - likely thanks in no small part to the ridiculously creative Ken Bald covers. The premiere issue has a little bit of everything: immortals, sea monsters, demons, ghosts and zombies, making it the perfect read for any dark and stormy night! Don't believe us? Here's the one-page supernatural thriller "The Corpse Under the Carpet" (author and artist unknown):
